Plagiarism/advertising?
[edit]The "Benefits" section seems to be identical to text on this page: http://benefitof.net/benefits-of-mosambi-juice/
Though it is unclear who might be plagiarizing from whom.
It also reads like an advertisement and has no sources cited. 76.218.68.67 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC).
- Then it should either be removed, reworded, or authentic sources need to be found on the topic.P0PP4B34R732 (talk) 00:05, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Correct name
[edit]According to The Plant List, Citrus limetta should be a synonym of Citrus medica. Any taxonomist or botanist expertise in the Citrus genus helps to verify this? MKwek (talk) 06:57, 30 January 2013 (UTC)
Inappropriate sections and style
[edit]The two sections after Uses (Checking for ripeness and Storage) read like instruction manuals; the nature of their headings and content makes them such. However, this should be avoided. The sections need to be removed, rewritten, or rearranged, and their relevant content put somewhere else in the article. While useful, they should not be written in the imperative mood but in the indicative. 49.144.182.30 (talk) 21:55, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Not citrus medica
[edit]Definitely not. Even that's what it says in plant list. Citrus taxonomy is very complexed, but this point at least is very clear. Citrus Limetta is juicy like a regular lemon, has pointy leaves, and thin peel and is not bigger then a human fist, is from hybrid origin. Citrus medica is one of the progenitors of all common lemons, and is a true species, as proven by molecular data. Bears big fruits (the Yemenite citron can reach 10 lb), has little insipid juice (usually acidic) if any, and a thick bumpy rind. Riversid (talk) 16:06, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Merge Proposal
[edit]I think that Citrus limonum var. dulcis which says that it's very popular in Iran, is actually the Limetta. See [1], so it should be merged here. Like to hear opinions, since citrus taxonomy is very complex. Thanks. Riversid (talk) 16:06, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Look what I found here:
The sweet lime, Citrus limettioides Tan. (syn. C. lumia Risso et Poit.), is called limettier doux in French; lima dulce in Spanish; mitha limbu, mitha nimbu, or mitha nebu, in India (mitha meaning "sweet"); quit giây in Vietnam; limûn helou, or succari in Egypt; laymûn-helo in Syria and Palestine. It is often confused with the sweet lemon, C. limetta Tan., (q.v. under LEMON) which, in certain areas, is referred to as "sweet lime". In some of the literature, it is impossible to tell which fruit is under discussion.
I will cite this in citrus taxonomy, anyway looks that even the big experts are just as confused. Riversid (talk) 16:24, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
- This is difficult, but Citrus limonum var. dulcis appears not to be the same as the 'Limetta' cultivar. This is a good source. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 22:39, 10 December 2014 (UTC)

Etymology and origin
[edit]Hello, I just checked on a couple of websites that the fruit gets its name in India from Mozambique and that it is a fruit native to northeast India - see [2] and [3]. Perhaps this information needs to be present/updated on the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by OutwardSpiral (talk • contribs) 11:12, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
- those sources are not scholarly enough. I think your search was based on some twitter thread. The claims made there is plausible, but there isn’t enough scholarly literature to back up that claim. ChandlerMinh (talk) 09:24, 28 January 2022 (UTC)
- I suppose the website cited as the source for the origin of the species is not reliable - it states on [4] that it is native to northeast India and its cultivation spread from there, whereas on [5] it says that its origins are not completely known. The claim for the name deriving from Mozambique is stated in [6] too, but I agree that this source may not necessarily be reliable.

- Here is a new better-quality source on limettas that gives brief information/speculation about their origin: [7] Agricolae (talk) 15:34, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
